Telling Our Stories enables us to remember as well as reinvent our lives. The act of writing also helps us to put into perspective what we have lost and gained. Recording someone's life story can be equally as powerful, for the process preserves the rich memories, which make a community unique. In our busy lives, we often forget to take time to share what is important to us, and even less to truly listen to the stories of others. Creating this collection of profiles gave the students and adults involved an opportunity to immerse themselves in the history, which make Saco the community it is today.

We began the third quarter with a mission: Create a collection of profiles preserving the rich experiences of the carried folks making up the Saco Community. We left the classroom in groups to capture the colorful stories you will read in this magazine. Main Street celebrates the lives of Saco locals — from a farming family to a baker. Acquiring these heartfelt stories took guts and determination on the parts of the students who went out into the community to conduct the interviews, and the trust of the people who so graciously shared their lives with us.

Four classes were involved in this effort. Sophomore College Preparatory English students in my Maroon-3 class began compiling the stories, the journalism class teamed up to add more profiles to the collection, photography students helped to take some of the photos, and finally Thornton's publication class designed the pages.

We hope you enjoy our product of this journey into the past.

Sincerely,

Hope A. Hall
