Giving Opportunities
Explore how your goodwill can help prepare students for a changing world, today and in the future. Philanthropy-coupled with everything our volunteers have to offer-impacts everything from the rigor of our course offerings and the excitement on our athletic fields to the technology in classrooms and the beauty of our historic buildings. In short, it's all about everything.
Alumni, parents and friends give to TA in so many ways:
- Helping to send out Thornton Fund mailings
- Making calls for phonathons
- Creating a scholarship fund
- Getting involved with TA's Athletic Boosters
- Joining a reunion committee or helping to organize alumni events
- Assisting with a sports team, a theater performance or musical
- Organizing fundraising activities
- Planning for future giving by joining the 1811 Society
- Making a donation to the Thornton Fund
The Thornton Fund
Annual giving through the Thornton Fund provides critical support to our programs and allows us to maintain our buildings, grounds and facilities. Our alumni, parents, trustees and friends know that they can help meet students' needs while enjoying tax benefits for their generosity.
Thornton Fund gifts in 2006-07 kicked off our 21st Century Science Initiative, providing laptops for high school students students to boost achievement in physics, biology and chemistry classes. Prior to this, other technology needs were addressed, such as wiring the campus with fiber optic cables and outfitting several computer labs. Gifts also provide the resources to fund student enrichment activities, to publish our alumni magazine, to support events like Dry Dock and more.
With just a few clicks, it's easy to give online. You may use your credit card and our secure connection to make a donation to TA. Just follow this link.
Or give by check. Download our 2007-08 Thornton Fund Brochure (which includes a pledge card). You may make your gift payable to Thornton Academy and mail it to:

Making a memorial gift is a thoughtful way to provide support to TA. By giving to TA's Thornton Fund in a relative or friend's name, you show support of the school while honoring a loved one.
Corporate Matching Gifts
Many companies have a matching gift program that supports employees in their philanthropic efforts. This may allow you to double or even triple your support of TA. Check with your employer to see if it will match all, or a portion, of your donation. Or look online: The Council for Advancement and Support of Education has a virtual matching gift database where you can search for your employer's name.
Stocks
Gifts of appreciated stocks offer another way to give to Thornton Academy. Contact Lisa Morin at 207-282-3361, ext. 281 or at lisa.morin@thornton.saco.org for stock delivery instructions.
Planned Giving
A bequest is a gift of either money or property made through your will. Thornton Academy's 1811 Society members understand the unique history of our school and the importance of its independent nature. Learn more about planned giving options by calling our development office at 207-282-3361, ext. 281, or e-mailing lisa.morin@thornton.saco.org. Keep in mind that Thornton Academy does not act as legal counsel or financial advisor to donors.
Volunteering
Volunteers make it all happen. Without these passionate people, we would not be where we are today. Many volunteer opportunities are available. To learn more about helping Thornton Academy, contact TA's Development Office at 207-282-3361, ext. 281 or lisa.morin@thornton.saco.org.
