For almost 200 years, Thornton Academy has been preparing students for our changing world through innovative programming rooted deeply in our history of strong liberal arts program of study.
With a full range of AP and honors courses, comprehensive offerings in performing and fine arts, technology and language, solid academic support services, extensive extracurricular and athletic opportunities, cutting edge technology offerings and personalized mentoring programs, we feel we have a lot to offer to our students. Because we are an independent school, our private school attributes allow our faculty and students to do exciting and interesting things they may not necessarily get to do at other schools.
Our teachers are encouraged to create new classes – classes like Artists Books: An Exploration of Word and Image, Contemporary Issues in Sports, Chinese or History and Theory of Film. Their limitations are only their schedules.
Our students are good school community members that take advantage of all the opportunities Thornton Academy has to offer. Students are encouraged to become involved in the many extramural opportunities offered at Thornton – activities like Speech & Debate Club, Student Council, Dance Company and Chamber Orchestra, not to mention school sports activities like football, lacrosse, baseball and field hockey.
