Campus Hours
The front door of the Maine Building is locked at 4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 3 p.m. on Friday. Other Main Building doors are locked at 2:30 p.m. every day.

Other buildings, except the Linnell Gym, the Alumni House, the main entrance to the new building and the doors of the library, are locked at 2:30 p.m.

Guidance Office Hours
Guidance counselors can discuss students' academic progress with parents/guardians.

During the school year, appointments can be made with counselors between 7:45 a.m.and 2 p.m., or at a time during the day that is convenient for both parents and counselors.

During the summer, the office can be reached between 9 a.m and 3 p.m to schedule appointments.

Medical Reminders
Thornton employs a school nurse who is available to students throughout the day.
  • If a student has a medical condition or a health-related issue, parents should inform Mrs. Purvis.
  • A signed permission slip is required before Mrs. Purvis can dispense Tylenol. In September, freshmen and new students will receive a form which parents must sign and return to her. The permission is valid for four years. Other over-the-counter medications are dispensed on a case-by-case basis and require a separate permission form.
  • A doctor's physical is required to participate in athletic activities. Freshmen or new students who plan to play a sport during any season need a doctor's note stating they have had a physical within the past year.
  • Thornton Academy will provide physicals to current freshmen, sophomores and juniors in May for the forthcoming school year.

Family Trips
Thornton Academy wants to ensure that every student gets the best education possible. Therefore, we do not encourage family trips outside of our regularly scheduled school vacations.

When a trip in unavoidable, a Planned Family Trip form must be completed five days prior to leaving, or such absences will count toward loss of credit.

Forms are available in the Deans' Office, located in the Main Building.
